Renting an audience versus owning one
On TikTok you rent an audience. You do not know your followers' names or emails, and you have no way to reach them outside the app. The day an account gets suspended, hacked or simply dropped by the algorithm, all that follower capital becomes unreachable at once.
An email list, on the other hand, is yours. It follows you from one platform to the next. If you switch networks, if the rules change, or if you launch something new, you write to your list and your audience is still there. That is the difference between building on sand and building on your own plot of land.
